COMMERCIAL DUTY IN A COUNTER-TOP FOOTPRINT

Kuvings CB850 Professional Power Blender

The Kuvings CB850 is a 1,700 W commercial blender built around a 1.4-litre Tritan container and an automatic sound enclosure. Kuvings classifies it for commercial use and positions it for frequent service in cafés, juice bars and hotel breakfast counters.

It occupies 233 x 255 mm of counter and stands 459 mm tall with the hood in place, so it fits a service station where a four-litre production blender will not. At 7.4 kg it stays where you put it and can be moved by one person for deep cleaning.

This is a single-station machine, not a production blender. If you are building drinks two or three at a time behind a counter, that is the job it is designed for. If you are batching litres of sauce or soup in a production kitchen, look at a four-litre machine instead.

THE SOUND ENCLOSURE

Why a hood matters in a customer-facing space

A high-speed blender at full power is the loudest thing in most cafés. The CB850’s hood closes automatically over the container and damps the sound at source, which is the difference between a drink order interrupting a room and passing unnoticed.

Kuvings does not publish a decibel figure for the CB850, and we would rather say so than repeat a number we cannot verify. What an enclosure of this type reliably does is remove the harsh upper frequencies; it does not make a 1,700 W motor quiet.

One practical note that applies to every enclosed blender: a closed hood restricts airflow around the motor housing. Keep to the published run limit and let the machine rest between long blends rather than running back-to-back cycles under the hood.

CONTROL AND CONSISTENCY

Five preset buttons, 35 recipe settings, one lever

The CB850 carries 35 pre-programmed recipe settings, any five of which can be assigned to the preset buttons on the panel. A lever-style quick-start runs a fixed cycle, and a dial gives manual speed control and pulse when a drink needs it.

The reason this matters commercially has little to do with the recipes themselves. A programmed cycle runs the same length at the same speed whoever presses it, so the smoothie a new staff member makes on their second shift matches the one the owner makes.

A separate cleaning program runs the jug with warm water and a drop of detergent between drinks — the practical way to switch from a berry base to a green base without carrying flavour across.

THE CONTAINER

1.4 litres of Tritan, and what that means in drinks

The container holds 1,400 ml. Allowing the headroom a blend needs to circulate, that is comfortably two 500 ml smoothies or three 400 ml drinks per cycle — enough for a table’s order, short of a batch run.

It is moulded from Eastman Tritan, a BPA-free copolyester used in commercial blender jugs because it survives repeated knocks and thermal cycling without clouding the way polycarbonate does. Stainless steel blades and drive components carry the load underneath.

Kuvings specifies hand washing rather than the dishwasher. Dishwasher heat and commercial detergent shorten the life of any Tritan jug, so the self-clean cycle plus a rinse is the routine that keeps the container clear.

MADE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN POWER

220-240 V, 50/60 Hz, South African plug

The CB850 we supply is the 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz model and ships with a South African plug. It runs on a standard wall socket — 1,700 W is well inside the capacity of an ordinary 16 A kitchen circuit.

This is worth checking whoever you buy from. Commercial blenders brought in on demand are frequently 110-120 V units built for the North American market, and a step-down transformer on a 1,700 W motor is a compromise you will feel in a busy service.

Every plug-in machine EcoHub supplies is the correct South African voltage with a South African plug, supported locally.

WHAT IT MAKES

A drinks machine, and honest about it

Smoothies, frozen fruit blends, iced coffee, nut milks and cold sauces. The 1.4-litre jug is sized for one or two drinks at a time rather than a batch, which suits counter service where each order is made to order.

The Tritan container is heat resistant, and Kuvings Europe lists hot soup alongside smoothies and ice cream in the 35 programmed recipes. Kuvings South Africa does not repeat that claim, and the published run limit is under three minutes per use — worth knowing if you are planning long soup cycles rather than drinks. Ice and frozen fruit are well within its range; dry milling and grain are not.

How the CB850 sits against the alternatives

The CB850 competes in the enclosed, counter-facing class of commercial blender. Two comparisons are worth making before you decide.

Against the OmniBlend V+ with sound cover, the CB850 is the more refined machine on controls and enclosure design; the OmniBlend is the value option with a slightly larger 1.5-litre jug. Against the Vitamix The Quiet One, the CB850 sits well below it on price and below it on acoustic engineering — The Quiet One remains the reference machine where silence is the specification.

If your work is batch preparation rather than single drinks, the four-litre OmniBlend V 4L PRO or the Vitamix Vita-Prep 3 are the better fit — different machines for a different job.

Questions we are asked about the CB850

Is the CB850 a true commercial blender, or a domestic machine marketed as one?

Kuvings classifies it as commercial and rates it for frequent use in cafés. The honest qualification is scale rather than build: a 1.4-litre jug and a sub-three-minute run limit make it a service-station machine, not a production blender. Within that role it is built for repeated daily use.

How many drinks can it make in a row?

Kuvings publishes a limit of under three minutes per use rather than a drinks-per-hour figure. Typical smoothie cycles run 20 to 60 seconds, so ordinary service sits comfortably inside that. The limit exists to protect the motor during unusually long blends, not to cap the number of drinks.

How loud is it with the hood down?

Kuvings does not publish a decibel rating for the CB850, so we do not quote one. The enclosure noticeably softens the blend, particularly the high frequencies that carry across a room. It does not render the machine silent.

Can it crush ice and frozen fruit?

Yes. Ice crushing and frozen fruit are among the tasks the 1,700 W motor and stainless steel blade assembly are specified for, and several of the preset programs are built around frozen drinks and sorbets.

Is the container dishwasher safe?

No. Kuvings specifies hand washing. The intended routine is the self-clean cycle — warm water and a drop of detergent, run for 15 to 30 seconds — followed by a rinse, with the motor base wiped down and never immersed.

Kuvings Australia’s daily cleaning routine for the CB850 — the self-clean cycle and a rinse, no dishwasher.

Is the CB850 NSF certified?

Kuvings does not publish an NSF listing for the CB850 itself. The Tritan material the container is moulded from carries its own food-contact material certifications. If your environmental health officer requires a machine-level NSF listing, ask us before ordering.

Does it come with a tamper?

Kuvings lists the blender, sound enclosure, recipe book and manual in the box. No tamper is listed. Thick blends are handled with the pulse function and a little added liquid rather than by tamping.

Will it work on South African power?

Yes. The unit we supply is 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz with a South African plug, and draws 1,700 W from a standard socket. No transformer, no adaptor.
