One slim, quiet column instead of a wall of boxes
Most backup systems are a wall of separate boxes: an inverter, a battery rack, isolators and the cable trunking that joins them. The EcoFlow PowerOcean 6kW puts the hybrid inverter and lithium batteries in one slim, quiet column that your electrician wires into the distribution board. When the grid goes down, it takes over the circuits on its backup side by itself: lights, Wi-Fi, the fridge, the alarm and the TV keep running, with nothing to plug in.
This listing is the complete package for one home: the 6 kW single-phase hybrid inverter, your choice of one to four 5 kWh PowerOcean LFP battery packs, the floor battery base the stack stands on, and the ADL200N-CT smart meter that tells the inverter what the house is drawing from the grid.
It runs as a backup system from day one. Add solar panels now or later and it becomes a solar system too, with up to 12 kW of panels on two independent inputs.
Slim, fanless and neat enough for the passage wall: backup and solar you do not have to hide in the garage.
ONE TO FOUR BATTERIES
Start with 5 kWh, stack up to 20 kWh
Each PowerOcean battery pack holds 5.1 kWh and stacks under the inverter, so the system grows upwards rather than across the wall. One pack gives a compact 732 mm tower; four packs reach 1.92 m and 20.4 kWh, the most one inverter takes.
The battery count also sets how much power is available during an outage. Each pack delivers up to 3.3 kW, so a single pack supports about 3.3 kW of load from the battery, two packs or more let the inverter run at its full 6 kW. If the kettle, microwave and a pool pump all matter during a power cut, start with two.
Every pack carries its own battery management, a built-in heater for cold mornings and an aerosol fire-suppression module. Packs can be added later; your installer adds them in the EcoFlow app.
SOLAR WHEN YOU ARE READY
Two solar inputs and room for 12 kW of panels
The inverter has two MPPT inputs that track independently, which suits roofs with panels on two faces. EcoFlow rates it for up to 12 kW of panels in total, a working range of 90 to 520 V and a maximum of 600 V.
Without panels, it charges from the grid between outages and holds the battery ready. With panels, the sun runs the house during the day and fills the battery for the evening, and the grid becomes the fallback. With NERSA approving municipal tariff increases of 11.32% in 2025 and 9.01% in 2026, every unit the house makes for itself is one it no longer has to buy. The smart meter lets the inverter use solar for the house before it draws a single unit from the grid.
An existing grid-tied solar inverter can also stay: PowerOcean is designed to work alongside one through its grid connection, so a house that already has panels does not have to start again.
INDOORS OR OUT
For the patio, the passage or the apartment
The inverter and batteries are rated IP65 against dust and water jets, so PowerOcean can go on a covered patio, a side wall or in the garage, as well as inside. Both are cooled naturally, with no fans: EcoFlow rates the inverter at 40 dB and each battery at 35 dB or less, quiet enough for a passage, a scullery or the corner of an open-plan room. That makes it a good fit for apartments, townhouses and cluster homes, where there is no garage to hide a system in.
It works from −20 to 50 °C, with output reduced above 40 °C, so a north-facing wall in full afternoon sun is a poor spot. Shade and the 300 mm clearance EcoFlow asks for around the stack keep it at full output.
One limit for the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal coast: EcoFlow’s installation guide asks for the system to be installed more than 500 m from the sea. Closer than that, speak to us first.
MADE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN POWER

The inverter is built for a single-phase 220–240 V, 50 Hz supply, the standard South African household connection, and the inverter range (EF HD-P1, 3 to 6 kW) is on the City of Cape Town’s list of inverters approved under NRS 097-2-1 (September 2026 edition). It supplies up to 6 kVA on its backup output during an outage, the same as its grid rating.
Every system we sell comes through EcoFlow South Africa and carries EcoFlow’s local warranty, which EcoFlow South Africa states as 10 years. Units imported privately from Europe do not carry that support here.
The package includes everything one stack needs to stand and talk to the house. Your installer supplies the cabling, DC and AC protection and the backup distribution board, and issues the Certificate of Compliance.
FLOOR OR WALL
Stand it on the floor, or lift it off
The package ships with the floor battery base: adjustable feet level the stack on an uneven garage floor, and the base bolts down. For a wall installation, the PowerOcean wall-mounted battery base takes its place, which keeps the floor clear and the stack out of reach of floodwater and lawnmowers.
At 183 mm deep and 680 mm wide, the stack sits close to the wall and fits a passage or the side of a garage without blocking a car door.
The EcoFlow app shows solar production, battery level, what the house is drawing and where the power is coming from, at home or away, and receives updates over the air.

How the PowerOcean 6kW sits against the alternatives
Against the Huawei Power-M, which we also sell, PowerOcean gives more output and more solar headroom: 6 kW against the Power-M’s 5 kW, and 12 kW of panels on two inputs against 5.5 kWp on one. Each PowerOcean battery delivers 3.3 kW against 2.5 kW for a Power-M module. The Power-M answers with a slimmer 16 cm cabinet, IP66 sealing and a longer track record in South African homes; the Power-M 10kWh is the closest match to a two-battery PowerOcean.
If you need more than 6 kW, the newer EcoFlow OCEAN 2 Plus Single-Phase system runs 8, 10 or 12 kW from one inverter, takes up to 24 kW of panels on three inputs and up to twelve batteries, with IP66 sealing. It is the better fit for a large house that wants the geyser and air-conditioning on backup.

Questions we are asked about the PowerOcean 6kW
Work from the load you want to keep running and for how long. A typical essentials load of lights, Wi-Fi, TV, fridge and alarm draws about 500 W, so one 5.1 kWh pack runs it for roughly eight hours once conversion losses are allowed for. Two packs double that and unlock the full 6 kW output, which is why most homes start with 10 kWh.

A standard 3 kW geyser element can run on a two-battery system or larger, but it empties a battery quickly: an hour of heating uses about 3 kWh. Most installers leave the geyser off the backup circuits, or put it on a timer or solar-only control, and keep the battery for the house.
Yes. When the grid fails, the inverter supplies the backup circuits from the battery and panels without anyone touching it, and returns to the grid when supply is restored. EcoFlow does not publish a switchover time for this inverter on its own, so we will not quote one; desktop computers and similar sensitive equipment are best kept on a small UPS.
It backs up the circuits your electrician connects to its backup output, up to 6 kVA. In practice that means the essentials and plug circuits, with heavy loads such as the stove, geyser and pool heater left on the grid side. Your installer designs that split around your distribution board.
Yes. Packs stack under the inverter and are added in the EcoFlow app, up to four on one inverter (20.4 kWh). EcoFlow increased the limit from three to four packs; both the 5 kWh and 20 kWh stacks use the same battery.
No. Without panels, PowerOcean charges from the grid and works as a backup system. With panels it also cuts your electricity bill, and up to 12 kW can be connected across its two inputs.
Outside, yes: the inverter and batteries are IP65 rated, though shade and the 300 mm clearance matter for full output. Near the sea, EcoFlow’s installation guide asks for more than 500 m from the shoreline, so coastal properties closer than that should speak to us first.
Often, yes. It is fanless and only 183 mm deep, so it can stand in a passage, scullery or store room, or on a covered balcony or patio. Check two things first. Weight: a two-battery stack with the inverter weighs about 136 kg on a 680 × 183 mm footprint, so upper floors need a sound slab or a wall mount. Permission: sectional-title schemes and estates usually need body corporate or HOA approval for electrical work and for any panels on a shared roof.
Without a roof of your own, it still works as a backup system charged from the grid.
A qualified electrician or solar installer, who issues the Certificate of Compliance. Use your own, or ask us: we refer customers to installers in our network across South Africa. Registering a grid-tied solar system with your municipality is part of your installer’s job.
EcoFlow South Africa states a 10-year warranty on the PowerOcean system. If something fails, contact us with your order number: we log the claim with EcoFlow, follow it up and keep you informed until it is resolved.
The warranty covers the equipment. Faults caused by the installation itself, such as wiring or protection errors, are the installer’s workmanship and are taken up with them.
