THE NEW GENERATION
Whole-home backup from a single inverter
The EcoFlow OCEAN 2 Plus is the second generation of PowerOcean, and the first that backs up the whole house rather than a set of essential circuits. A 72 A bypass and a smart meter are built into the inverter, so the entire distribution board can sit behind it, with no separate gateway or meter to buy.
This listing is the complete package for one home: the OCEAN 2 Plus hybrid inverter in 8, 10 or 12 kW, two to four OCEAN 2 LFP 8 kWh batteries (16 to 32 kWh), and the OCEAN 2 battery base the stack stands on.
It is built for bigger South African homes, the kind with a geyser, a pool pump and air-conditioning that a 5 or 6 kW system has to leave off backup. And it does it from one neat stack, with the changeover, meter and battery connections built in rather than spread across the wall.

One neat stack carries the whole house through a power cut, geyser, pool pump and all, with no blink when the grid drops.

WHEN THE GRID GOES
The lights do not flicker
EcoFlow rates the OCEAN 2 Plus at 0 ms switchover on its backup side, provided the load stays within the inverter’s rating and the grid disconnects cleanly. In practice the house carries on through a power cut with no blink on the TV, the router or the desktop computer.
The inverter supplies its full rating on backup: 8, 10 or 12 kW continuously, the same as when the grid is up. With solar connected it keeps charging the battery through an outage, and it can start the house from the battery alone if the grid fails at night.
Battery size sets how much of that power is available from storage. Each 8 kWh battery delivers 4.1 kW continuously, so two cover the 8 kW model, and three or more let the 10 and 12 kW models run at full output from the battery alone.
SOLAR WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Three inputs and room for up to 24 kW of panels
The inverter takes three independent solar strings, each with its own tracker, so panels on east, west and north roofs each work at their own best point. EcoFlow rates the 8 kW model for 16 kW of panels, the 10 kW for 20 kW and the 12 kW for 24 kW, with up to 8 kW and 16 A per input and a 900 V maximum.
That headroom means a large array still delivers in winter and on cloudy days, and the surplus on a clear summer day goes into the battery rather than being clipped. With NERSA approving municipal tariff increases of 11.32% in 2025 and 9.01% in 2026, a big house that runs on its own solar by day and its battery at night buys far fewer units from the grid.
An existing solar inverter can stay on: the OCEAN 2 Plus supports third-party inverters connected on its backup side, so an upgrade does not mean discarding panels that already work.

WHERE IT LIVES
Garage, patio, outside wall or indoors
The inverter and batteries are rated IP66 against dust and powerful water jets, and the inverter works from −20 to 60 °C. It can go in the garage, on a covered patio or on an outside wall, floor-standing or wall-mounted.
A floor stack takes up to six batteries on the OCEAN 2 battery base, a wall installation up to three. The batteries stack onto each other through built-in terminals, and the first one connects to the base the same way, so there is no cable loom inside the stack.
Each 8 kWh battery is 680 × 196 × 378 mm and 67.5 kg, so the stack is a two-person job for your installer, and the 8 kWh model is fan-cooled to hold its output on hot days. For a living area or a wall next to a bedroom, the fanless first-generation PowerOcean 6kW is the quieter choice.
MADE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN POWER
Supplied through EcoFlow South Africa
The inverter is built for a single-phase 220/230 V, 50 Hz supply, the standard South African household connection, and its 72 A bypass is comfortably above a typical 60 A suburban supply.
Every system we sell comes through EcoFlow South Africa and carries its local warranty. EcoFlow South Africa states 15 years on the inverter and 10 years on the 8 kWh battery, extendable to 15. Units imported privately carry no local support.
Your installer supplies the cabling, protection and distribution board work, and issues the Certificate of Compliance.

GROWS WITH THE HOUSE
Up to twelve batteries on one inverter
One OCEAN 2 Plus takes up to twelve batteries: 96 kWh with 8 kWh modules. EcoFlow’s 5 kWh and 8 kWh OCEAN 2 batteries can be mixed, so a system can be topped up later with whichever size suits.
The EcoFlow app shows solar production, battery level and what the house is drawing, at home or away, with your installer able to manage the system remotely through EcoFlow’s Pro app.

How the OCEAN 2 Plus sits against the alternatives
The first-generation EcoFlow PowerOcean 6kW is the smaller, simpler system: 6 kW of backup for the essential circuits, two solar inputs and up to 20 kWh. For a house that does not need the geyser or air-conditioning on backup, it does the job for considerably less.
Against the Huawei Power-M 10kW / 20kWh, which runs two 5 kW power modules in parallel, a 10 kW OCEAN 2 Plus delivers the same output from one inverter, with 20 kW of solar input against the Power-M pair’s 11 kWp, and whole-home backup built in. The Power-M is the slimmer cabinet and the system with the longer track record in South African homes; the 10kW / 30kWh version adds storage.
Buying the parts separately? The OCEAN 2 Plus inverter, OCEAN 2 LFP batteries and OCEAN 2 battery base each have their own listing.
Questions we are asked about the OCEAN 2 Plus
Add up the largest loads that could run at once during an outage. A house with a geyser, kettle, stove plate and pool pump on backup together can reach 8 kW; add air-conditioning or a borehole pump and 10 or 12 kW makes sense. Send us your list and we will size it with you.
Two 8 kWh batteries (16 kWh) cover the 8 kW model at full power and run an average home through an evening and a night. For the 10 and 12 kW models, three or more let the inverter deliver its full rating from the battery alone. Batteries can be added later, up to twelve per inverter.
Yes, up to the inverter’s rating. The 72 A bypass carries the whole distribution board, and the inverter supplies everything behind it during an outage. If the house tries to draw more than the inverter’s rating, heavy loads need to be shed, which your installer can automate.
Yes. A 3 kW geyser element is within the rating of every model, but an hour of heating uses about 3 kWh of battery. Most homes heat the geyser from solar during the day and keep the battery for the evening.
That is EcoFlow’s figure for the backup side, with conditions: the load within the inverter’s rating, a clean disconnect from the grid and a stable supply beforehand. In practice it means no visible break when the grid drops.
No. It works as a backup system charging from the grid, and up to 24 kW of panels can be added at any stage on three inputs.
Yes. EcoFlow states there are no special requirements for mixing OCEAN 2 5 kWh and 8 kWh batteries; the same limits of six per floor stack and twelve per inverter apply.
A qualified electrician or solar installer, who issues the Certificate of Compliance. Use your own, or ask us: we refer customers to installers in our network across South Africa. Registering a grid-tied solar system with your municipality is part of your installer’s job.
EcoFlow South Africa states 15 years on the OCEAN 2 Plus inverter and 10 years on the 8 kWh battery, with an optional extension to 15. If something fails, contact us with your order number: we log the claim with EcoFlow, follow it up and keep you informed until it is resolved.
The warranty covers the equipment. Faults caused by the installation itself are the installer’s workmanship and are taken up with them.
The inverter and batteries are IP66 rated, and EcoFlow specifies C4 corrosion protection for the 8 kWh battery, a rating aimed at coastal and industrial air. For a site on the seafront, speak to us before ordering.
