The battery for the OCEAN 2 range, in 5 or 8 kWh
The EcoFlow OCEAN 2 LFP Battery is the stackable lithium iron phosphate module for EcoFlow’s second-generation home systems, including the OCEAN 2 Plus single-phase. It comes in two sizes: 5.02 kWh and 8.03 kWh.
The two can be mixed in one system. EcoFlow states there are no special requirements for combining 5 and 8 kWh OCEAN 2 batteries, within the same limits of six per floor stack, three on a wall and twelve per inverter.
Each module stacks onto the one below through built-in terminals, so there is no cable loom inside the stack.

Which module suits the system
The 5 kWh module delivers 3.4 kW continuously (4.08 kW for up to 20 minutes), charges at 2.5 kW, weighs 46 kg and is cooled naturally, with no fan.
The 8 kWh module delivers and charges at 4.1 kW continuously (6.4 kW for up to 30 minutes), weighs about 67.5 kg and uses fan-assisted cooling to hold its output on hot days. It carries C4 corrosion protection and water-ingress detection.
Battery count sets the power available from storage: on a 12 kW OCEAN 2 Plus, three 8 kWh modules cover the full rating, where two leave about 8 kW available from the battery alone.

IP66, with its own heating
Both modules are sealed to IP66, and EcoFlow rates the bottom module of a stack for up to 72 hours standing in water. Built-in thermal control warms the battery in cold conditions.
EcoFlow rates the cells for 10,000 cycles at full depth of discharge, and the modules work from −20 to 55 °C.
Every battery we sell comes through EcoFlow South Africa and carries its local warranty: EcoFlow South Africa states 15 years for the 5 kWh module and 10 years for the 8 kWh, extendable to 15.

Which OCEAN 2 battery makes sense
For a new system, the complete OCEAN 2 Plus package bundles the inverter, 8 kWh batteries and base.
Topping up an existing OCEAN 2 system, the 8 kWh module adds the most storage and power per slot in the stack; the 5 kWh is lighter, fanless and finer-grained. A floor-standing stack needs the OCEAN 2 battery base.
First-generation PowerOcean owners use the PowerOcean LFP Battery 5kWh. EcoFlow designed the two ranges to work together with limits on mixed stacks; ask us before combining them.
Questions we are asked about the OCEAN 2 battery
The 8 kWh gives more storage and more continuous power per module, and suits larger inverters. The 5 kWh is lighter, has no fan and suits smaller steps. They can be mixed.
Up to six in a floor stack on the OCEAN 2 battery base, three on a wall, and twelve per inverter: 96 kWh with 8 kWh modules.
EcoFlow lists the PowerOcean single and three-phase inverters as compatible, and designed the ranges to combine, with rules on how mixed stacks are built. Tell us your system and we will confirm the setup with EcoFlow before you order.
It uses a fan to hold its output in heat. EcoFlow does not publish a noise figure, so for a bedroom wall the fanless 5 kWh module is the safer choice.
Have your installer do it. At 46 or 67.5 kg it is a two-person lift, and the system needs updating in the app.
EcoFlow South Africa states 15 years on the 5 kWh module and 10 years on the 8 kWh, extendable to 15. If a battery fails, contact us with your order number: we log the claim with EcoFlow and follow it up until it is resolved.
Yes, both modules are IP66 rated, and the 8 kWh has C4 corrosion protection. For a seafront site, speak to us first.
For a floor-standing stack, yes: one OCEAN 2 battery base per stack.
