Ice-cold to boiling at the touch of a button
The DNA Water Cooler gives you filtered water three ways from one compact machine: cold, adjustable from 3 to 15 °C; at room temperature; or hot, at any of six settings from 45 to 100 °C. It is the kettle and the fridge jug on one spout.
It needs no plumbing at all. Fill the 3.8-litre tank at the tap, set the machine down wherever there is a plug, and it is ready. That makes it as much at home on an office counter or in a guest kitchen as beside the kettle it replaces.
It is also the most affordable way into hot and cold water on demand in the DNA range. What it does not do is reverse osmosis — it filters and treats the water rather than purifying it through a membrane — and we set out below exactly what that means, so you can choose with your eyes open.

FILTERED AND UV-TREATED
Better-tasting water, with a UV light for peace of mind
Water from the tank passes through DNA’s 5-step universal filter, which combines coarse and fine filtration, ion-exchange resin and activated carbon. DNA says it reduces chlorine and limescale and improves the taste and smell of the water — the things most people notice about tap water first.
A built-in UV light adds a further level of treatment. Together, the filter and the lamp are aimed at the everyday complaints about municipal tap water: the chlorine taste, the scale in the kettle and the question of what has been sitting in the tank.
What the cartridge does not do is remove dissolved solids the way a reverse osmosis membrane does. If you want the salts, metals and hardness taken out rather than reduced, look at the DNA Water Purifier 2 or the Cara CA3001 in the comparison below; if you want good-tasting hot and cold water from a machine that fits anywhere, this is the one.
THE CONTROL PANEL
Six hot settings, adjustable cold and five pour sizes
Everything is set on one digital panel. Hot water comes at 45, 55, 65, 75, 85 or 100 °C, so you can have coffee water, green-tea water and boiling water without a thermometer, and the cold side adjusts anywhere from 3 to 15 °C.
Choose a pour of 100, 200, 300 or 400 ml, or continuous flow, and the machine stops on its own — a mug, a glass or a water bottle filled without standing over it.
A child lock guards the hot settings, and the panel also carries a low-water indicator, a filter replacement reminder and a descaling reminder, so the machine tells you what it needs instead of leaving you to remember.
WHO IT IS FOR
The kitchen counter, the office and the guest room
At home it is the machine for households that drink a lot of water and a lot of tea: cold water on tap without a jug in the fridge, and boiling water for the pot without waiting for the kettle.
In a small office it replaces the bottled-water stand and the kettle with one plug-in machine and no delivery schedule. Refill the tank at the kitchen tap and carry on.
And because nothing is plumbed in, it suits rented homes, holiday flats and boardrooms — anywhere you want hot and cold water without asking permission to drill.
LIVING WITH IT
A 3.8-litre tank, and reminders that do the remembering
The removable tank on the back holds 3.8 litres, and a further litre is held in the internal cold tank so chilled water is ready when you want it — 4.8 litres in the machine in total.
DNA rates the universal filter at up to 150 litres. That is the figure to plan around: a household drinking three litres a day will reach it in about seven weeks, so filter changes are a regular habit rather than a once-a-year job. The panel reminds you when it is due.
The descaling reminder matters for the same reason. The filter reduces limescale but does not remove hardness entirely, so in hard-water areas the heater will need an occasional descale, and the machine will tell you when.
MADE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN POWER
Ready for South African mains, straight from the box
DNA Health is a South African company, and the Water Cooler is supplied for South African 220–240 V, 50 Hz mains with a South African plug — not a 120 V import that needs a transformer to run.
DNA rates the machine at 2,200 to 2,600 watts, which is kettle territory while it heats. If you plan to use it on an inverter or UPS during load-shedding, check that your system can carry that load; most home backup systems sized for lights and Wi-Fi cannot.
Warranty and service are handled in South Africa by DNA Health, from Johannesburg and a Cape Town showroom and warehouse. The Water Cooler carries a two-year warranty; the filter is a consumable and is not covered.

How the Water Cooler sits against the alternatives
The decision that matters is filtration or purification. The DNA Water Purifier 2 costs more and passes the water through a reverse osmosis membrane, removing most of the dissolved solids; it heats but does not chill. The Water Cooler chills and heats, and filters for taste, chlorine and limescale rather than purifying. If your tap water is safe and you mainly want it cold, hot and better-tasting, the Water Cooler is the sensible buy.
If you want both — chilled water and reverse osmosis — the Cara CA3001 does it without plumbing, at a higher price. The Cara CA2901 adds reverse osmosis and a UV lamp at a higher price, but like the Water Purifier 2 it does not chill.
At the top of DNA’s range, the DNA Water Bar is plumbed in, purifies through reverse osmosis and adds sparkling water, at nearly three times the price. It is a different class of machine; the Water Cooler is for people who want hot and cold water without the cost or the plumbing.
