Sunsynk X Series 16.07kWh 300Ah Lithium Battery

The Sunsynk X Series 16.07kWh 300Ah Low Voltage Lithium Battery is a high-capacity LiFePOâ‚„ battery designed for residential solar systems, backup power and larger energy-storage installations.

Often referred to as the Sunsynk 300Ah battery, the X Series provides 16.07kWh of nominal energy storage in a single battery enclosure. This makes it particularly useful for customers who want substantially more battery capacity than the typical 5kWh modules commonly used in residential solar installations.

Operating at a nominal 51.2V, the battery is designed for compatible Sunsynk low-voltage hybrid inverter systems and incorporates battery management, CAN and RS485 communication, IP65 protection and support for parallel battery expansion.

16.07kWh Storage in a Single Battery

One of the main advantages of the Sunsynk X Series is the amount of energy storage available from a single unit.

With 16.07kWh nominal capacity, one X Series battery provides roughly three times the storage capacity of a conventional 5kWh residential lithium battery.

This can reduce the number of individual battery modules required in a larger installation and provides a practical option for homes where the objective is to run more than just essential loads during an outage.

A battery of this size is also well suited to solar installations where the aim is to store more daytime solar generation for use in the evening and overnight.

Sunsynk 300Ah Battery

The X Series is commonly sold in the South African market as a 300Ah Sunsynk battery.

Its primary manufacturer rating is 16.07kWh at 51.2V. This equates mathematically to approximately 314Ah, with 300Ah commonly used as the rounded market description for the product.

For system design and technical comparison, the 16.07kWh energy capacity, voltage and charge/discharge specifications should be used as the primary reference.

LiFePOâ‚„ Battery Technology

The Sunsynk X Series uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePOâ‚„ / LFP) battery chemistry.

LiFePOâ‚„ is widely used for modern stationary solar-energy storage because of its combination of thermal stability, long cycle life and suitability for regular daily charging and discharging.

Sunsynk specifies a cycle life of more than 6,000 cycles under defined test conditions of 25°C, 0.5C charge/discharge, 90% depth of discharge and 80% remaining capacity.

High Charge and Discharge Capability

The Sunsynk X Series supports a maximum specified charge and discharge current of 157A.

This makes the battery suitable for higher-power residential systems when paired with an appropriately sized and compatible inverter.

Actual system output will depend on the inverter rating, battery state of charge, temperature, battery-management limits and overall system configuration.

Designed for Sunsynk Hybrid Inverters

The battery is designed to integrate with compatible Sunsynk low-voltage hybrid inverters.

CAN and RS485 communication allow the inverter and battery-management system to exchange operating information such as battery state of charge and permitted charging and discharging limits.

Correct battery-to-inverter communication is an important part of a lithium energy-storage system because it allows the system to manage the battery according to the manufacturer’s operating parameters.

IP65 Protection

The Sunsynk X Series battery has an IP65-rated enclosure, providing protection against dust ingress and water jets.

This gives the battery more installation flexibility than lithium batteries intended only for protected indoor environments.

The installation location must nevertheless comply with Sunsynk’s installation instructions, environmental limits, required clearances and applicable electrical regulations.

Expandable Battery Storage

The Sunsynk X Series can be expanded by connecting multiple compatible batteries in parallel.

Sunsynk recommends a maximum of 8 batteries in parallel, allowing the platform to be used for considerably larger energy-storage systems where required.

Parallel battery installations should be designed and commissioned by an appropriately qualified installer, with correct consideration given to battery cabling, over-current protection, communication and current sharing.

Who Is the Sunsynk 16kWh Battery For?

The Sunsynk X Series is particularly relevant for customers who want more than basic load-shedding backup.

  • Larger residential solar installations where substantial solar energy needs to be stored for evening and overnight use.
  • Extended backup power during longer grid outages.
  • Homes with higher electricity consumption where a smaller 5kWh battery would provide limited runtime.
  • Solar self-consumption where more daytime solar production is stored rather than drawn from the grid later.
  • Expandable systems where additional X Series batteries may be added in an approved parallel configuration.
  • Selected light-commercial installations requiring substantial low-voltage battery capacity.

Battery Capacity vs Inverter Size

Battery capacity and inverter output describe two different parts of a solar system.

The inverter rating determines approximately how much power can be supplied at one time, while the battery capacity largely determines how much stored energy is available and for how long.

Installing a 16.07kWh battery therefore does not automatically increase the output of a smaller inverter. What it provides is substantially more stored energy and potentially longer operating time.

Customers who want to operate larger household loads such as geysers, cooking appliances, pumps, air-conditioning or other high-demand equipment should select the inverter, battery bank and solar array together as a complete system.

Installation and System Design

The Sunsynk X Series is a high-capacity lithium battery and should be installed as part of a correctly designed solar or backup-power system.

Before purchasing, confirm that the intended inverter is compatible with the battery and that the inverter, battery bank, cable sizes, protection equipment and solar array have been correctly specified for the installation.

Installation and commissioning should be carried out by a suitably qualified installer in accordance with Sunsynk’s instructions and applicable South African electrical regulations.

A valid Certificate of Compliance (COC) and the required installation documentation may also be required for Sunsynk warranty registration in South Africa.

Sunsynk X Series 16.07kWh Quick Start Guide

Choosing the Right Sunsynk Battery System

The Sunsynk X Series 16.07kWh 300Ah battery is a strong option for customers building a larger low-voltage Sunsynk system or moving beyond the smaller battery banks typically used for basic backup power.

Its combination of 16.07kWh storage capacity, LiFePOâ‚„ chemistry, IP65 protection, CAN/RS485 communication and expandable parallel operation makes it particularly well suited to substantial residential solar and energy-storage installations.

For the best result, battery capacity should always be considered together with the inverter output, household load profile, desired backup duration and available solar-panel capacity.
