PERFERA A SERIES
Living-room capacity in the slim Perfera body
This is the 18 000 Btu Perfera in the current A series, pairing the FTXM50A indoor unit with the RXM50A9 outdoor unit. It is the model for living rooms, open-plan kitchens and main bedrooms of up to about 36 m².
It uses the same 804 mm indoor unit as the 9 000 and 12 000 Btu Perferas, so a larger room gets twice the cooling of the 9 000 without a bigger unit on the wall.
At its nominal rating it delivers 5.0 kW of cooling (about 17 100 Btu/h) and 5.8 kW of heating, and like every Perfera it is a heat pump, as useful in a Highveld winter as in a Durban summer.

“Comfort+: perfect comfort with homogeneous temperature.” — Daikin

EFFICIENCY
A++ in cooling and heating
Daikin rates the FTXM50A with RXM50A9 at a seasonal efficiency of 7.80 in cooling and 4.80 in heating, both A++. At its nominal rating it draws 1.36 kW to deliver 5.0 kW of cooling, an EER of 3.68, and heats at a COP of 3.95.
As an inverter it seldom runs at full output. The compressor varies between 1.7 and 5.3 kW in cooling and between 1.7 and 6.5 kW in heating, slowing down once the room reaches temperature instead of switching on and off.
Econo mode caps the power draw so the aircon can share a supply with other appliances, which helps on a solar or backup system.
COMFORT+
Twin flaps that spread the air evenly
The A series uses two airflow flaps instead of a single louvre. Together they narrow and steer the air so it carries further and settles evenly across the room, rather than leaving a cold patch under the unit. Daikin calls this Comfort+.
3D airflow combines vertical and horizontal auto-swing to reach the corners, and heat boost brings the room up to temperature up to 14% faster on start-up than a comparable Daikin unit without it.
The two-area motion sensor reads the room. It steers air away from where people are sitting, and when nobody has been detected for a while it drops to an energy-saving setting on its own.

WHERE IT WORKS
Made for living rooms and open-plan spaces
A living room is where an aircon runs longest, so this is the size where efficiency counts most. Over a summer of long afternoons, an inverter that throttles down rather than cycling on and off is what keeps the running cost down.
Comfort+ matters more in a larger room too: the twin flaps carry air further, so the far end of an open-plan space is not left warmer than the end with the unit.
On its silent setting the indoor unit runs at 27 dBA in cooling, and the silent button takes a further 3 dB off, so it suits a large main bedroom as well.
CLEANER AIR
Flash Streamer and two purifying filters
Daikin’s Flash Streamer releases a stream of electrons that breaks down airborne allergens such as pollen and mould, and removes odours, as air passes through the indoor unit.
Behind it sit a silver allergen-removal filter, which captures pollen and similar allergens, and a titanium apatite deodorising filter for smells such as cooking, tobacco smoke and pets. The dust filters are removable and washable.
It does not replace a dedicated HEPA purifier for severe allergies or smoke; for that, look at our air purifiers. But the air the Perfera circulates is cleaner than the air it draws in.

MADE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN POWER
Daikin South Africa stock, ready for load-shedding
This unit is supplied through Daikin South Africa for a 220–240 V single-phase supply, so the local Daikin warranty applies and parts come through Daikin’s South African network. Air conditioners brought in by private importers are not always covered here.
Auto-restart returns the unit to its previous settings when the power comes back after an outage, so there is no reaching for the remote after load-shedding. At around 1.4 kW in cooling, a 5 kW inverter carries it with room to spare.
Control it through the built-in Wi-Fi and Daikin’s Onecta app, at home or away, with a weekly timer and voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. An infrared remote is in the box.

How the Perfera 18 000 Btu sits against the alternatives
The Daikin Sensira 18 000 Btu is the value alternative, rated at 5.10 kW of cooling and a SEER of 6.5 (A++), with built-in Onecta control. It does without the Perfera’s Flash Streamer, Comfort+ twin flaps and motion sensor, and it is no quieter on silent. If the room is used in the evenings only, the Sensira is good value; for a living room that runs most of the day, the Perfera’s higher seasonal efficiency is where it pays back.
If the room is closer to 30 m², the Perfera 12 000 Btu is the better fit and more efficient still, at A+++. For a larger open-plan area, the Perfera 20 000 Btu adds capacity with a wider indoor unit.
Where several rooms need cooling and there is little space outside, the FTXM-A indoor units also run off a single Daikin outdoor unit as a multi-split system.
Questions we are asked about the Perfera 18 000 Btu
Up to about 36 m² with a standard ceiling height: a living room, open-plan kitchen and lounge, or a large main bedroom. A high ceiling, big sun-facing windows or a hot roof above add load; in that case look at the Perfera 20 000 Btu.
At its nominal rating it draws 1.36 kW in cooling. In practice it uses less once the room is at temperature, because the inverter slows the compressor down. Its SEER of 7.80 is Daikin’s measure of efficiency across a whole cooling season.
Yes. At around 1.4 kW in cooling, a 5 kW inverter carries it with room to spare, and Econo mode can cap its draw further. Auto-restart brings it back to its previous settings once the power returns. Battery run time depends on what else is running and how hot the day is.
Indoors it runs from 27 dBA on silent to 46 dBA on high in cooling. The outdoor unit is rated at 48 dBA in cooling. Both units have a silent button that lowers their sound level by 3 dB.
Yes. Wi-Fi is built in, and Daikin’s Onecta app controls the unit at home or away, with scheduling and a view of past energy use. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The infrared remote is also supplied.
No. A split system has to be installed by a qualified installer, with copper piping, cabling and a bracket or base for the outdoor unit. Our installers cover the major South African cities and quote separately. The units can sit up to 30 m apart (20 m in height), with no extra refrigerant needed up to 10 m.
It cleans the air it circulates: Flash Streamer breaks down allergens and odours, a silver filter captures pollen, and a titanium apatite filter deodorises. It is not a HEPA air purifier, so for severe allergies or smoke a dedicated air purifier is the right tool.
