PERFERA A SERIES
Daikin’s premium wall split, in its latest form
The Perfera is the wall split Daikin builds for the rooms people spend the most time in: bedrooms, studies and living rooms. This is the 12 000 Btu model in the current A series, pairing the FTXM35A indoor unit with the RXM35A9 outdoor unit.
Daikin launched the A series in 2024 with a redesigned indoor unit, twin airflow flaps and higher efficiency, to a seasonal rating of 9.25 in cooling and 5.20 in heating, both A+++. It is a heat pump, so it is as useful on a July evening as in February.
At its nominal rating it delivers 3.5 kW of cooling (about 11 900 Btu/h) and 4.0 kW of heating, which suits a room of up to about 30 m² with a standard ceiling.

“Our high-performance wall-mounted solution heats, cools and purifies the air in your home, throughout all seasons.” — Daikin

EFFICIENCY
A+++ in both seasons, on 0.76 kW
At its nominal rating the Perfera draws 0.76 kW to deliver 3.5 kW of cooling, and 0.88 kW to deliver 4.0 kW of heat. That is roughly four and a half units of comfort for every unit of electricity.
As an inverter it seldom runs at full output. The compressor varies between 0.9 and 4.4 kW in cooling and between 0.8 and 5.5 kW in heating, slowing right down once the room reaches temperature. The low end matters most: a unit that can throttle down to 0.9 kW holds a bedroom steady through the night instead of switching on and off.
Econo mode caps the power draw so the aircon can share a supply with other appliances, which helps on a solar or backup system.
COMFORT+
Twin flaps that spread the air evenly
The A series replaces the single louvre with two flaps. Together they narrow and steer the airflow so it carries further and settles evenly across the room, rather than leaving a cold patch under the unit. Daikin calls this Comfort+.
3D airflow combines vertical and horizontal auto-swing to reach the corners, and heat boost brings the room up to temperature up to 14% faster on start-up than a comparable Daikin unit without it.
The two-area motion sensor reads the room. It steers air away from where people are sitting, and when nobody has been detected for a while it drops to an energy-saving setting on its own.

WHERE IT WORKS
Made for bedrooms, studies and living rooms
On its silent setting the indoor unit runs at 19 dBA in cooling, below the background noise of most bedrooms at night. That is why the Perfera is the usual choice for a room people sleep in.
Night set mode raises the cooling set point by 0.5 °C (or lowers the heating set point by 2 °C) overnight, so the room does not end up too cold or too warm by morning, and the indoor silent button takes a further 3 dB off.
In a living room or home office, efficiency is what counts. Long daily run times are where an A+++ unit pays back against a cheaper one.
CLEANER AIR
Flash Streamer and two purifying filters
Daikin’s Flash Streamer releases a stream of electrons that breaks down airborne allergens such as pollen and mould, and removes odours, as air passes through the indoor unit.
Behind it sit a silver allergen-removal filter, which captures pollen and similar allergens, and a titanium apatite deodorising filter for smells such as cooking, tobacco smoke and pets. The dust filters are removable and washable.
It does not replace a dedicated HEPA purifier for severe allergies or smoke; for that, look at our air purifiers. But the air the Perfera circulates is cleaner than the air it draws in.

MADE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN POWER
Daikin South Africa stock, ready for load-shedding
This unit is supplied through Daikin South Africa for a 220–240 V single-phase supply, so the local Daikin warranty applies and parts come through Daikin’s South African network. Air conditioners brought in by private importers are not always covered here.
Auto-restart returns the unit to its previous settings when the power comes back after an outage, so there is no reaching for the remote after load-shedding. At around 0.76 kW in cooling, it sits comfortably on a 5 kW inverter.
Control it through the built-in Wi-Fi and Daikin’s Onecta app, at home or away, with a weekly timer and voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. An infrared remote is in the box.

How the Perfera 12 000 Btu sits against the alternatives
The Daikin Sensira 12 000 Btu has the same 3.5 kW cooling rating and its own built-in Onecta control. Daikin rates it at a SEER of 6.9 (A++) against 9.25 here, it runs down to 22 dBA against 19, and it does without Flash Streamer and the motion sensor. For a room used for a few hours a day the Sensira is the sensible buy; for a bedroom, or a room in use most of the day, the Perfera’s efficiency and quiet are worth paying for.
Size matters more than model. A smaller bedroom is better served by the Perfera 9 000 Btu, while a larger room, an open-plan space or one with big sun-facing windows needs the Perfera 18 000 Btu. An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite gets there; an oversized one costs more than it needs to.
Where several rooms need cooling and there is little space outside, the FTXM-A indoor units also run off a single Daikin outdoor unit as a multi-split system.
Questions we are asked about the Perfera 12 000 Btu
Up to about 30 m² with a standard ceiling height. Large sun-facing windows, a high ceiling, a top floor under a hot roof or an opening into another room all add load; in those cases look at the Perfera 18 000 Btu. For a smaller bedroom, the 9 000 Btu is the better fit.
At its nominal rating it draws 0.76 kW in cooling and 0.88 kW in heating. In practice it uses less once the room is at temperature, because the inverter slows the compressor right down. Its SEER of 9.25 is Daikin’s measure of efficiency across a whole cooling season.
Yes. At around 0.76 kW in cooling it runs comfortably on a 5 kW inverter, and Econo mode can cap its draw further. Auto-restart brings it back to its previous settings once the power returns. How long your batteries last depends on what else is running and how hot the day is.
Daikin redesigned the indoor unit and moved to twin flaps for Comfort+ airflow. The inverter range widened to 0.9–4.4 kW in cooling (from 1.4–4.0 kW), and the seasonal cooling rating rose from 8.65 to 9.25. Indoor noise is the same, at 19 dBA on the silent setting.
Indoors it runs from 19 dBA on silent to 45 dBA on high in cooling. The outdoor unit is rated at 47 dBA in cooling. Both units have a silent button that lowers their sound level by 3 dB.
Yes. Wi-Fi is built in, and Daikin’s Onecta app controls the unit at home or away, with scheduling and a view of past energy use. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The infrared remote is also supplied.
No. A split system has to be installed by a qualified installer, with copper piping, cabling and a bracket or base for the outdoor unit. Our installers cover the major South African cities and quote separately. The units can sit up to 20 m apart (15 m in height), with no extra refrigerant needed up to 10 m.
It cleans the air it circulates: Flash Streamer breaks down allergens and odours, a silver filter captures pollen, and a titanium apatite filter deodorises. It is not a HEPA air purifier, so for severe allergies or smoke a dedicated air purifier is the right tool.
The FTXM35A indoor unit can, with a Daikin multi-split outdoor unit, but this pair is a single split: the RXM35A9 serves one indoor unit. For several rooms on one outdoor unit, see the Daikin multi-split system.
